Advice

NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast damaging winds:

  • Thredbo Top Station
  • Thredbo
  • Perisher Valley
  • Charlotte Pass
Sustained 89 km/h winds were recorded at Thredbo Top Station in the 10 minutes around 3:00 pm.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises northwesterly winds will increase over the Snowy Mountains ahead of a trough moving through the state today.

For AREAS ABOVE 1500 METRES: Strong northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible about areas of the Snowy Mountains today.

For ALPINE AREAS ABOVE 1900 METRES: DAMAGING WINDS winds averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts up to 110 km/h are occurring about areas about higher parts of the Snowy Mountains today.

Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by late Friday morning.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.


What you need to do:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, move indoors, bring children and pets with you.
  • Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
  • If safe to do so, secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
  • Grab your emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
  • Monitor warnings issued by NSW SES on their website, HazardWatch and Facebook pages, the Hazards Near Me mobile app, local radio or television, and by following the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.
